By Frank Van Valen, Numismatist and
Cataloger.
The late John J. Ford, Jr.
amassed one of the world’s most diverse and amazing collections of U.S. and
related North America numismatic items. The cabinet included coinages of the
states along with other delicacies and rarities from the pages of the Red Book, as well as Indian Peace
medals, paper currency from colonial times onward, and much more. The
collection made heads spin among those members of the numismatic community who
took part in our Ford Collection offerings over a four-year stretch, commencing
with Sale 1 in October 2003 and ending with Sale 21 in October 2007.
Much to our delight, a portion of
the Ford Collection still remains intact, only this time the focus is largely
on tokens and other ephemera -- Early American tokens, Hard Times tokens,
Merchant tokens, Indian Trader tokens and more. You name it and there’s a good
chance it is represented in Sale #22 to be held in conjunction with our 2013 ANA
World’s Fair of Money auction to be held in Rosemont, Illinois August 11th
through 16th. Also in the August Ford sales will be more currency including
colonial issues, Obsolete Bank notes, and Fractional Currency among numerous
other paper disciplines.
Our stellar team of catalogers
and consultants – Andrew W. Pollock III, John J. Kraljevich, Jr., Jeff Ambio,
Greg Cohen, Jim Matthews, Jim Jones, John Pack, Bruce Roland Hagen, and Frank
Van Valen – all spent untold hours and days putting the sale in order and
cataloging the many, many rarities that will be featured. As always, we are
proud of our presentation, and once the catalogs for the official ANA sale are
in your hands, we are certain you will be pleased by both the presentation and
the offerings.
If you already subscribe to our
catalogs, you will be nearly overwhelmed by the many 2013 ANA catalogs once
they start arriving in your mailbox. If you follow us on line, the sales –
including our fabulous Hong Kong World Coin sale to be held in Hong Kong a few
days after the ANA sale – are now up and running and ready for your
examination. The sales include something for everyone no matter what your
numismatic tastes. If you do not receive our catalogs or follow the sales on
line, a simple call to our office at 1-800-458-4646 can get you started on our
mailing list. Once you've made the call and become familiar with our sales and
service, we’re certain you’ll be glad you picked up the telephone!
